a letter from: Kyoshi Steve
Baer, 7th Dan
Greetings prospective student
or parent:
I am pleased that you have
chosen to take the first and most important step in choosing a martial arts studio for yourself and/or your child. I trust that you’ll perform the same due diligence when making this decision as you would with any
other choice that affects your family’s health and well-being. Since I
founded my dojo some 20 years ago, Baer Martial Arts
has consistently produced RESULTS. Men, women and children of all ages have come
through our door and experienced an increased sense of discipline, awareness and well-being.
A few years ago, an advertising
sales person said to me, “Karate is karate, it’s all the same.”
In addition to being extremely annoyed, that statement gave me an even greater passion to educate the public about
what really makes us different. The difference at Baer Martial Arts can be summed up by quoting the French mathematician and philosopher Henri Poincare who said, “Science is much like a house,
in that science is composed of facts much like house is composed of bricks. But
the mere collection of facts is no more a science, than a pile of bricks is a house.”
All schools can teach how
to kick and punch. Many also teach good values of discipline and confidence. But very few understand the interrelation of techniques and the human body. Even fewer actually teach authentic karate, rather relying on a mixture of unrelated techniques that they
blend together to create their own “style”. As a martial artist,
I am deeply committed to training and teaching martial arts in its purest form while at the same time, applying these traditional
principles to today’s society. Personally, I have a passion for working
with kids and adults who have a true desire to learn. I love working with people,
sharing the camaraderie and seeing the friendships that grow out of our training. The
martial arts can be a true lifetime experience that grows with the individual. I
have seen this first-hand over the last two plus decades of training and teaching.
I have been honored to have
some of the very best training with some of the world’s foremost authorities in the martial arts. We teach all aspects of this martial arts training through classical systems of karate-do, kobudo and aikijujitsu. Using a diverse
and interesting class format
we provide a balance between exercise, technical practice and execution, and martial arts theory & history. We believe
in stimulating the mind as well as the body, giving each and every student weapons that far surpass the effectiveness of just
the hands and feet.
Whether you have a child
in need of discipline, focus or coordination, or if you’re an adult who is looking for something to challenge you both
mentally and physically, it is my professional aim to help you reach your individual goals.
Thank you once again for
your interest. I look forward to seeing you soon.
